[Magnum was created in 1976 by Dadou Pasquet and his brother Tico Pasquet, their band plays it's own original style of konpa called the "Only Difference", some of their biggest singles were "Fierte", "Ashadei", "Pike Devan"," Severite", " Moun Sa" and " Paka Pala" just to name a few. Magnum has influenced many musicians; however it is very difficult to copy their music.
Magnum has recently released their 33rd album "Rété Avè'm chéri" as you can see the band is still very powerful and had has a lot of fans. Over the past 25 years the band has traveled and represented Haiti all over the world. Dadou Pasquet and Magnum Band are known for promoting Haiti. Dadou is one of the greatest Haitian guitar players in the world; he plays to perfection and carries great warmth, passion and excellent vocals.

The thought of the musical group MAGNUM BAND soon to kick off a series of live events celebrating THIRTY YEARS part of our entertainment community and beyond certainly compels us to a pause…
We will not dispute the audible legacy well established by the material they have created and offered ears over time, we won't presume ourselves skilled tabulating the huge time frame between June 24, 1976 and June 24 2006…yet-reflecting on the wobbly and ephemeral state of those assembling to create music in the HMI these days, this thirtieth commemoration is a praiseworthy exemplar!

If in validating the intention reasons must be given, then actions single-handedly reflected in three decades reveal best the perseverance of a musical group on a trail with perhaps the least of support from many in the HMI industry as movers and shakers. Case and point, we are far from 1976. Magnum Band approaching year thirty! Congratulations indeed! However, can we sincerely say that Magnum Band has gone over all inflicted and unhelpful setbacks? I truly doubt it. To unremittingly hear of planned festivals marketing multiplicity and the uplifting of Haitian sounds to a point edging redundancy- and this band's name is always absent on the lineup. Futile it would be to further analyze this idiosyncrasy.
It will take no genius to agree that constant obstacles would truly discourage one carving a path even with the best of intentions. It would not be far fetched to deduce that at one point or another Dadou and Tico must have had their spirits crushed to the point of perhaps contemplating to retreat all together. For a band with an exceptional repertoire, noticeable solidarity and indisputable discipline, Magnum Band appears to have always been handed the short hand of the stick!
Yet- I am certain some onlookers are cognizant…this band has done wonders with the bit of fortune having come their way. Having been so unfairly perceived, shorthanded and-maltreated would truly test one's willed to forward march. In spite of the disadvantages menacing the band's continuing existence, through perpetual self motivation the two brothers and some faithful members over time simply exhibited the true meaning of the word-determination. Resolute to stay the course, Magnum band gratefully embraced the harsh process lived creating the collage making the past thirty years. Whether pleasant or unfortunate the experiences, one this is certain- the band has made of time a good ally.

Rejoicing over the past thirty years of music labeled Magnum Band's style will not be complete neglecting to also pay homage to all past members under the same marker. We tip our hats to those having collaborated and recorded with the band over the years- Roland Cameau, Nasser Chery, Yvon Modesir (Biassou), Essud FundCap, Waag Lalanne, Varnel Pierre, Ersnt Gabriel, Jean Robert Narcisse and Jean Almatas.
Sharing the Magnum Band stage today Andre Pasquet (Dadou)-Leader/Guitar, Claude Pasquet (Tico)-Drums, Laurent Ciceron-Bass, Lucien Benjamin (Blek)-Rhythm guitar, Camille Armand—Tambour, David Lacombe—Keyboard, Andre Dejean-Trumpet, Paul Hennegan-Sax, John Normandin-Trombone, Charles Fortune—Chorus, Nestor Azzero—Vocal. Undoubtedly, this flamboyant musical cast in keeping the dance floors moving helped generate countless dependable Magnum Band fans over three decades.
For music's sake Magnum Band ventured on a path collectively now extending thirty years defying the odds ensuring longevity in our music industry. Before it became average for bands in this community to blend various sorts into our own music, lead guitarist Dadou Pasquet effortlessly tore down the restrictions separating genres in music. In retracing the more than thirty-two albums under Magnum Band's belt this avant-garde perceptible feat is well archived. The quality of material structuring Magnum Band's musical inventory situates and solidifies their enduring position! While contributing to the solid music heritage we all wish to see preserved from Haiti, and offering the public what they deserve-distinction and continuity were kept. Magnum Band represent us well taking Compas music to international circuits as well as animated memorable nights locally and in Haiti.
If time, memory, recorded archives and simple logic consent, we understand that the band has over the years navigated through personal life's hardships, business drawbacks, lack of endorsement and imposed hurdles. Yet, surmounting what would make most crumble; and here to tell about is a clear fact. This band did not deviate from their original course. And although, persistence has its own merit enduring in this course, we can't appear naive in the thinking that Magnum Band is done jumping obstacles! Despite the clear ongoing lack of enthusiasm and downright recklessness from those responsible to protect, sustain, uphold and encourage growth in our music industry, Magnum Band never minimized their personal promise to the public. This itinerary we must admit without ramification the band held independently.
Authentic- the band remained. Thirty years balancing all the territory can dish out; all the while playing music freely from the heart-contributing to our national music arsenal- removing barriers- and deleting doubts…are no hidden factors. Three decades later thank goodness, an audience with an affinity bordering superiority activated and sustained by years of well played and composed music reciprocates the gesture expressing their deepest gratitude to Magnum Band for the gift wrapped in harmony delivered the past thirty years of music.
With great justification, I encourage this Haitian community to stand together paying homage to MAGNUM BAND CELEBRATING 30 YEARS. Equally befitting the projected events marking this significant milestone beginning in Miami with a gala hosted by the Magnum Band Fan Club on Saturday June 17th, 2006! This much anticipated gathering will set off a succession of musical happenings in other cities and countries! The fan club congratulates and wishes Magnum Band the very best reward due to those having worked hard for it.
Surely, Magnum Band's long-established "la seule difference' is embedded in more than survival, we all recognize it. Accordingly, those with ears also rejoice! This thirtieth anniversary confirms their continued existence paradoxically predicted and projected by the aged axiom "PAKAPALA!"
